<p>On Wednesday, June 18, 2008, Brooke added to her blog that she was available  for performances and appearance dates.  She&#8217;s already had one offer for a 17th birthday party.  And 16 year old Dominic has invited her to come to Louisville Kentucky to play because &#8220;You r a great singer and u r really pretty.&#8221;</p>
<p>Brooke has been the one Hogan who has escaped the negative spotlight.  Seeking work on her myspace like an undiscovered amateur can&#8217;t be a positive career move.  What can her PR people be thinking? Maybe she found them on myspace.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Last night&#8217;s episode introduced us to the two new roommates sent to replace Greg, who was fired from his job and instantly kicked off the show, and Joey who wisely left the show to work on his rehab. Being a roommate on the Real World is never going to have a positive impact on rehab.</p>
<p>Both new roommates are black, young and very good looking.  And they are both straight too, unless we get a huge shocker.  Has there ever been another season where everyone was straight and has there ever been a season where there were more black roommates than whites?  </p>
<p>Nick seemed like a cool guy, friendly, outgoing and likes to party.  I already like him better than Greg who I thought was boring and stuck up.   </p>
<p>The spotlight on this episode though was mostly about Will, Brittini and Janelle.<br />
Brittini said her flirting didn&#8217;t mean anything but I think she&#8217;d hook up with Will in a minute.  I also think Will will hook up with her too.  It&#8217;ll happen before the season&#8217;s over.  You can&#8217;t have that much of a physical attraction to someone who is obviously into you too and live with them and never act on that attraction, especially when there&#8217;s a crap load of alcohol involved.   Janelle is pretty but she&#8217;s kind of dull.  I don&#8217;t know their ages but she seems to old for Nick - not just chronologically but more experience and maturity.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I can&#8217;t believe I just saw another greedy contestant embarrass herself, her family, her friends and her boyfriend, only to walk away with nothing. </p>
<p>This last contestant admitted to drinking while pregnant, passionately kissing another female <strong>and</strong> having a relationship with her, and to talking to ex boyfriends about her sex life with her long time boyfriend.  She further caused pain to her boyfriend by admitting that while they were together she accepted gifts from men she was attracted to, and made out with a co-worker.  One question away from $100,000 and she was asked if she ever regretted getting back together with her boyfriend and she answered &#8220;no.&#8221;  I knew right then that she had blown it.  You can&#8217;t really love someone and do the things that she had just admitted to doing.  Sure enough after the standard pause of tension, the narrator determines &#8220;that answer is&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;false.&#8221;   There goes her guaranteed $25,000 and a lot of pride and humiliation.  </p>
<p>What makes people risk so much for money?  What good is the money if you lose your spouse (which has happened), embarrass your family and possibly lose your job.  Contestants have admitted to stealing on the job, falsifying vital statistics during emergency care, groping female customers, and other job threatening acts.  Not to mention the humiliation the children of these contestants must endure. </p>
<p>The worst part of it is that after humiliating themselves and all their loved ones, many contestants keep getting greedy until they miss a question, usually a no brainer that is obvious to the audience, and end up going home with zilch.  </p>
<p>My advise, play the lottery.  Your chances are just as good and you don&#8217;t hurt anyone playing it.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have decided to change up my blog and switch to a topic that I am more than familiar with, in fact I am addicted to, and hopefully I will find some other addicts like myself that will drop by daily to share their thoughts. </p>
<p>I am 43 years old and am coming out of the closet.  I am a reality tv junkie.  I watch reality shows that are geared for young kids, teenagers and adults.  </p>
<p>I watched the first episode of the first season of The Real World back in 1992 and I have been hooked on Reality tv since. That to me, is the beginning of modern reality tv shows.  I hated Puck.  I was disgusted that he picked his nose and used that same finger to dip in the peanut butter. I couldn&#8217;t imagine what a pretty girl like Rachel could see in him.  I was shocked and enlightened to be brought into the life of Pedro. I never personally knew anyone gay, or anyway that I knew to be gay.  I was thrilled when Puck got voted out.  I was saddened at the death of Pedro. Funny the same Puck I hated, I found myself rooting for when he and David went at it on the Real World Road Rules Battle of the Sexes in 2003.  </p>
<p>I have seen every episode of Survivor, starting with the first season where I endured the nakedness of Richard Hatch (who did win), rooted like crazy for ex Navy Seals Rudy Boesch, couldn&#8217;t decide if I liked or didn&#8217;t like outspoken Susan Hawk, who I decided I definitely didn&#8217;t like when she returned for Survivor All-Stars, but I was entertained by her snake and rat speech.   </p>
<p>Among these two of my favorite reality shows I also enjoy some others that are highly rated or some that not many have even heard of, Big Brother, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Biggest Loser, Real World Road Rules Challenges, American Gladiator, Super Nanny, The Contender, I  Know My Kids A Star,  Joe Schmo, The Mole, Nashville Star, Nanny 911, Paradise Hotel, Temptation Island, Trading Spaces, Fear Factor, and the list goes on and on  </p>
<p>There are even a few highly rated reality tv shows that I don&#8217;t watch like Amazing Race, Last Comic Standing, Dancing with the Stars, and the Bachelor.  </p>
<p>I am even guilty of watching some of the &#8216;not so real&#8221; reality shows like Laguna Beach and it&#8217;s spin off, The Hills.  Even though I know they are scripted and I get disgusted by how obvious the scenes and conversations are staged, like a bad soap opera, I still tune in to see what happens.</p>
<p>I look forward to blogging on these and other Reality shows.  Some blogs will be to provide highlights but I also want to explore some of the behind the scenes, little known facts and secrets of reality tv.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When an inmate is due to be released, members of their family will start calling the probation and/or parole office asking what they can do to help their loved one when they get out.  There are exceptions, of course, where an inmate has just burned too many bridges and will even have a hard time finding a residence to parole out to. For the most part, though, families are anxious to get their loved one released and are genuinely interested in helping them stay out of trouble.</p>
<p>Although the newly released subject is the only one that can actually make decisions that will be result in a successful transition into the free world or a return trip to prison,  their family and friends can help them by being supportive, patient and firm. Here are some things the family can expect and ways they can help.  These suggestions are based on new releases who are going to be on probation and/or parole when they get out but will give you some good suggestions even if your loved one is maxing out in prison and will not have any type of supervised transition.  In that case, it is even more imperative that you help them stay on the right path.</p>
<p>1) Understand that when the subject is first released, they will be required to report to their parole or probation officer within 24 to 48 hours after getting out. It is not negotiable. Be prepared that they will need to have transportation to that meeting. A parolee or probationer that does not report as instructed is already in violation and the violation is noted in their case file. That is a first strike that could be avoided if arrangements are made in advance. Transportation is never an excuse for not reporting. It is a condition of their release and it is understood before release is granted.</p>
<p>2) Understand that when they report to the parole office, it may take a while, especially on their initial visit.  Just except it and relax. I have seen many a new release embarrassed by the impatience and rudeness of the family member or friend that drove them there.  They complain and show obvious signs of impatience to the parole staff.   Don&#8217;t make them apologize for your behavior. If you&#8217;re not going to be able to wait on them, make arrangements to drop them off and find another ride home, or they can walk. The officers are not making them wait on purpose. Most of the officers are out in the field doing their work and there may only be the duty officer and secretary in the office. Understandingly, emergencies may pop up that have to handled immediately.</p>
<p>3) Help them find a job. Try and get some leads before they actually get out. Probationers that are working are more productive and feel better about themselves. They have less time on their hands to get into trouble and they have legitimate money in their pocket. They will be required to maintain gainful employment while on parole or probation. They will probably be put on a job search program where they will be required to report regularly to show their efforts in searching for employment. The quicker they can get hired, the less visits will have to be made to the office.</p>
<p>4) Don&#8217;t be an in-abler. Don&#8217;t cover for them and lie to their officers. If your loved one is messing up, the violations will only pile up if the problem is not handled swiftly. A violation does not necessary mean a revocation. A long series of violations, however, will surely lead to revocation. If the officer knows they are messing up, help convince the subject to talk to their officer about it and get help. That is what probation and parole is there for. If it was believed that an inmate could leave prison and never make another mistake, then there wouldn&#8217;t be a need for parole or probation. If the officer is not aware of the subject messing up and you lie and cover for them, it is guaranteed their violation will only turn into something more serious, possibly another arrest. Nothing causes revocation faster than a new arrest.</p>
<p>5) Refrain from having drugs and alcohol around the subject. Dependencies such as these are the root of many other legal problems. It will probably be a condition of their parole and/or probation to not drink alcohol and to submit to random drug screens. Allow their home to be a safe haven away from such temptation.</p>
<p>6) If the subject has not acquired a diploma or GED, than help arrange for them to go to school or classes to obtain a GED. There are many free programs that will help. Call the parole office or probation office and ask if they have a number that you can call to set something up. You can also look on the Internet or in the phone book for classes. The library is also a great place to look for information. Once their GED is obtained, more employment opportunities will be available and they will feel a lot better about themselves.</p>
<p>7) Help the subject stay away from people that were part of their criminal history prior to prison life. Certain people and places are just triggers and will cause a return to criminal behavior. Don&#8217;t allow them in your home and try to help them find new friends who are better influences. One place they may find some guidance and some new friends who are looking for the same answers as they is in local AA/NA(Alcoholic Anonymous/Narcotics Anonymous) meeting.  Even if it is not a condition of their release to go to meetings, it is still a great idea. Again, the parole/probation offices can help find meetings. Another great place to find guidance, better friends, resources and provide self worth, is in church. The church family can help with all kinds of issues your love one may face, including employment and transportation.</p>
<p> <img src='http://crime_watcher.today.com/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_cool.gif' alt='8)' class='wp-smiley' /> If your loved one has a mental health condition, than it has been determined that they are in need of mental health evaluations and medication. It is very important that they make those appointments. That will be the only way they can receive their medication (usually free). It&#8217;s also extremely important that they take their medication. A calm, reasonable, medicated, mental health subject can become easily agitated, delusional, enraged, confused, and dangerous to himself and others if he stops taking his medication.</p>
<p>9) Save the letters that your loved one wrote you when they were incarcerated. When they start resenting the rules of their officer or the demands of their employers and family members, show them those letters. Let them read the loneliness, sadness, fear, and desperation in those letters. Maybe it will remind them of how much better life is on the outside, even with the rules and restraints.</p>
<p>10) Love and forgive them.</p>
<p>To sum it up: Be patient with your loved one. Provide them with resources that will help them be successful on probation and/or parole. Don&#8217;t let any of your actions cause them to digress. Hold them accountable for their mistakes but guide them toward help. Make sure they do everything their supervising officer tells them to do. Let them know they are loved and truly forgiven.</p>

<p>Last week Governor Purdue passed House Bill (HB) 89 to go into effect July 1, 2008.<br />
HB 89 allows people to carry guns in more public places, including public transportation, state parks, wildlife management areas (WMA’s), historic sites and public buildings in those sites. It will also allow people to carry guns in business parking lots and restaurants that serve over 50% food, even if they serve alcohol. The bill applies to individuals who have a current Georgia Firearms License (GFL) permit; however, the bill also allows guns to be carried in vehicles with or without a GFL permit as long as the carrier is a law abiding citizen.</p>
<p>Restaurant workers are very upset about the law and wanted Governor Purdue to veto it.  The law states that if you are carrying a gun, you will not be allowed to drink.  This doesn&#8217;t ease the mind of restaurant workers who fear people will drink and banish their firearms when they get drunk.  The Georgia Restaurant Association, wondering how waiters and waitresses are to keep patrons who are packing from drinking, is prepared to go to court.</p>
<p>Marta drivers have petitioned over 1,000 signatures demanding bullet proof shields in their buses.  Also protesters question the security of the airport since MARTA has a station inside the Atlanta airport.</p>
<p>Supporters of the bill say criminals do not follow the law anyway and people should be able to protect themselves. Already 44 states in the nation allow people to carry weapons on public transportation. </p>
<p>With the new law, hikers in the woods will be protected from the likes of Gary Michael Hilton.  Car Jackers might think twice before jumping in an occupied vehicle.  Robbers might reconsider running in that convenience station waving a pistol if they don&#8217;t know how many law abiding citizens are in there packing their own weapons. A child may not be snatched when a mom turns her back for a second if the pedophile considers the possibility of the child screaming and ten child protecting, weapon carrying, bystanders being in ear shot.  Look at my <a href="http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/738709/firearm_ownership_is_mandatory_for.html">article</a> that shows what happened to crime when the city of Kennesaw made it law that every head of household in their city must maintain a firearm and ammunition.  At that time the media expected Kennesaw to revert back to the days of the Old West when shootouts were used to handle disputes but the city of Kennesaw proved them wrong. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This evening, with only 2 1/2 hours left before Samuel David Crowe was to be executed, the Georgia State Board of Pardons &amp; Paroles granted clemency to 47 year old admitted killer, Samuel David Crowe.  His sentenced was commuted to Life without Parole.  This is the third time since 1995 that the Board has granted clemency.</p>
<p>Crowe was sentenced to death after he admittedly robbed and murdered 39 year old Joe Pala, the manager of Wickes Lumber Company, in Douglas County, Georgia. On March 2, 1988, Crowe, a former co-worker of Pala&#8217;s, came by while Pala was closing and he was invited to enter the store.  As Crowe and Pala were engaged in normal conversation, Pala turned his back on Crowe and Crowe shot him. When Pala tried to escape, Crowe shot at him again, missing, and then hit Pala over the head with a paint can, and poured paint over his face.  Crowe then beat Pala&#8217;s skull in with a crow bar and stole $1,160.00. Crowe claimed he had planned on robbing the store to get money to pay off his debts.</p>
<p>Today in a plea for commutation, before the 5-member Parole Board, Crowe&#8217;s attorney, Ann Fort, blamed severe withdrawal for her client&#8217;s actions on the night of the murder.  She said that her client had recently stopped using cocaine. Since being rehabilitated, she claims Crowe has constantly tried to atone for the brutal murder.</p>
<p>Fort provided a box of letters from supporters, including a testimonial from a former corrections officer, Jack Bedsole who called Crowe, &#8220;a peacemaker&#8221; among the inmates in the prison.</p>
<p>In his letter, Bedsole wrote,  &#8220;He was the only person I dealt with on death row in 16 years who I felt like if they released him that morning he would never get in any more trouble and he could make a contribution to society.&#8221;</p>
<p>Crowe wrote a letter of remorse to be read at the hearing, &#8220;What I did to Joseph Pala is not something that I have ever been able to forget, or push back into the recesses of my mind,&#8221; Crowe said.</p>
<p>This is the second clemency hearing heard in Georgia this month.  The first, <a href="http://crime_watcher.today.com/2008/04/30/william-earl-lynd-schedule-to-die-by-lethal-injection-on-may-6-2008/">William Earl Lynd</a>, was denied clemency and was executed by lethal injection on May 6, 2008, at 7:00 p.m.  William Earl Lynd was the first inmate executed nationwide since September, when a de facto moratorium was put in place until the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the constitutionality of lethal injection.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The phrase Anchor Baby is used to describe babies of illegal immigrants that are born in the United States.  Because they are born in the United States, they are automatically eligible for US government benefits, many without even applying.  Their families, who are not eligible themselves because they are in the country illegally, suddenly get to reap all the benefits of this new baby who has &#8220;anchored them&#8221; to the United States.  Many young immigrant girls are coming to the US and having babies so they can receive free housing, health care, education, food stamps, etc.  These benefits are costing the United States more than 18 Billion Dollars annually. </p>
<p>This abuse is a result of a flawed misinterpretation of the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment in the US Constitution, which reads:</p>
<p>Citizenship Clause: &#8220;All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.&#8221;</p>
<p>Originally this clause was created, following the civil war, to protect newly freed slaves from being deported out of the country as they had not previously been considered U.S. citizens.  It was never intended to include children of illegal aliens.</p>
<p>Senator Jacob Howard, the author of the clause, said &#8220;This will not, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the Government of the United States.&#8221;  but that is exactly what is happening.</p>
<p>There are over 350,000 Anchor Babies born each year and the number is increasing.  Hospitals, especially in high immigration areas, are being forced to close because of the lost funds these anchor babies and their families generate.  </p>
<p>In 2007, Georgia Representative Nathan Deal (R)introduced H.R. 1940, the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007. H.R. 1940 would end the process of granting automatic birthright citizenship to the babies born in the United States to illegal aliens. This bill needs the support of all hard working, tax paying, legitimate American Citizens and their elected public servants.</p>
<p>All Americans should <a href="http://www.congress.org/congressorg/home/">contact their representatives and demand they they cosponsor H.R. 1940.</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On Wednesday May, 14, 2008, 20 year old Jeremiah &#8220;Jerry&#8221;, Berry was charged with Second Degree Murder for killing his father, 42 year old Jack Berry.  According to a Montezuma County Sheriff’s Office search warrant affidavit obtained Thursday, May 15, 2008, Jeremiah Berry confessed to authorities that he had killed his father after being raped by him.  </p>
<p>Around February 19, 2008, Jeremiah and Jack were transporting sheep to a canyon in Colorado when Jack told his son that he had been instructed by God that his son needed to get a sex change and become his (Jack&#8217;s) wife.  Then Jack raped his son.  Jeremiah alleges that he shot his father because his father told him he was going to take Jeremiah into the mountains and make him his &#8220;girlfriend.&#8221;   He also threatened to kill Jeremiah and the rest of his family.  Jeremiah then shot his father in the back of his head five times, stabbed him 199 times and skinned his body.   He then used an ax to remove the head, hands and feet. He fed the flesh to coyotes and put the hands, feet, head and torso in the back of his father&#8217;s pick up truck.   He three the murder weapon, an ax and three knives into the Animas River in Durango.  </p>
<p>He spent the next two days carrying body parts out of the canyon in 5 gallon buckets.  Two buckets, containing his father&#8217;s hands, feet and head, were taken to a storage room at a local dog kennel.  The buckets were later discovered after a search warrant was obtained for the kennel.  </p>
<p>Montezuma County Sheriff&#8217;s department obtained search warrants for numerous locations within the county looking for more body parts.  Those found were sent to the CBI laboratory in Grand Junction for examination and DNA testing to help identify the victim.</p>
<p>The district attorney is not saying why he chose to charge Jeremiah Berry with second-degree murder instead of first-degree murder.  </p>
<p>“I can’t talk about things that led me to second-degree murder rather than first degree,” he said.</p>
<p>Jeremiah Berry is being held at the Montezuma County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond. A preliminary hearing for Berry is scheduled For June 20 @ 1:30 P.M. in county court. </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It wasn&#8217;t long into this season that I picked out my favorite American Idol performers.  My prediction was for for a battle of the David&#8217;s.  To be honest I was expecting it to be three David&#8217;s - David Archuleta, David Cook and David Hernandez, who I still think got voted off way too early.</p>
<p>It looks like my prediction has come true. Well, minus Hernandez.</p>
<p>Of the remaining two David&#8217;s&#8230;.</p>
<p>In the beginning I thought Archuleta was the one to beat.  I was, and still am, drawn to his adorable boyish charm.  His awe and humility is refreshing.  He just always seems genuinely grateful to still be in the competition.  Of course his amazing soulful voice is why he is one of the final two. His talent is extraordinary.  In my opinion he is the most soulful singer American Idol has ever had.  </p>
<p>However, after several weeks, I found myself looking forward to David Cook singing.  My loyalty was shifting.  I was still rooting for Archuleta but I found myself enjoying David Cook&#8217;s performances more. His style is more my style.  He just <strong>is</strong> 80&#8217;s rock to me.  That&#8217;s what I get from his performances anyway.  He&#8217;s got that ugly but sexy look to him.  His cockiness is a turn off for some people but I love it. To me, it adds to his sex appeal.  </p>
<p>To sum up.. my opinion only:</p>
<p>David Archuleta can sing soul better than anyone, including Cook.  When he closes his eyes and belts out those notes that are way beyond his years, than he is unbeatable.  But when the theme changes, he sometimes falls short and his performances end lacking something.  When he finishes I think, &#8220;that was good.&#8221;</p>
<p>David Cook, although doesn&#8217;t have the soul Archuleta has, has a wider range of talent. No matter what the theme is, he has the talent to change the arrangement and create brilliance.  He can make just about any song, a great song.   He has taken some very risky chances and they have turned into better songs than the originals. That is hard to do.  When he finishes I find myself thinking &#8220;wow - that was cool!&#8221;</p>
<p>I feel like a traitor when I say this&#8230;but *drum roll please* David Cook should be the next American Idol.    </p>
